Mattie Sowell

Mattie Sowell was born November 12, 1918 to the late Sherman and Mattie Waters of Wrightsville, Georgia.  Mattie was raised in Newark, New Jersey.  She was the youngest of nineteen children.  Mattie attended the Newark Public School System where she graduated.  Mattie met and married Booker T. Sowell; this union was born one son Booker Sowell (deceased) who married and loved Anita L. Sowell (deceased).  She worked as a Commercial Catalogue Stylist for Commercial Studios in New York City for more than twenty years.  At an early age she accepted  the lord.  She visited Greater Refuge Temple where she was baptized in the name of Jesus .  Mattie was a faithful member of the Gospel Chorus and Memorial Choir.  She received the Holy Ghost under the leadership of Pastor William L. Bonner.

She was loved by all who knew her loving smile.  She leaves to mourn four devoted grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren and twenty great great grand children and one great great great grand daughter. Denise Sowell who has blessed her four with great grand children and fifteen  great great  grand children and one great great great grand daughter. Craig G. Sowell who blessed her with three great grandchildren. Kevin L. Sowell who blessed her with three great grand and two great–great grandchildren. Darryl B. Sowell who blessed her with two great randchildren and one great-great grandson. Waiting in Heaven is Marsha L. Sowell granddaughter, Reginald A.
