Rosa Tucker Obituary

Rosa Bell Tucker was born in Trenton, South Carolina on Rosa moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1952. She worked at the Newark Post Office from 1966 until she retired in 2009 as a clerk and then as a quality control specialist. She worked tirelessly to make sure that we all not only got our mail but got it on time. Also, during that time period, she worked at the Board of Education driving a truck and delivering supplies to the different schools throughout Newark. To further her education she attended college as well.

Rosa had an entrepreneurial spirit and loved buying and selling as well as interacting with people. This passion led to her owning a flea market booth for several years and eventually opening a store on Lyons Avenue in Newark. She loved children so her store was full of toys and games where she gave away as much as she sold.

There are many names that we will remember her by: Mom, Grandma, Granny, Tig, Ms. Tucker, Ms. Rosa, Rose but she will mostly be remem-bered as a God-fearing faithful servant who was always there for her family and community. She stood for what was right and always stood by her word. She also loved animals and gardening too.

Rosa passed away from natural causes on March 11, 2021, at the age of 88. She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Clarence Tucker and a daughter, Michelle Jones and son-in-law, Michael Jones of Hillside; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a brother, Mack Pressley II (N. Augusta, SC) and 4 sisters, Addie Bell Carter (August, GA); Annie Willie Thomas (Edge-field, SC); Fannie Walker (Aiken, SC) and Thelma Walker (Aiken, SC); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death were her sons David Tucker, Jr., (Dawud); Gary Tucker (Naim); Herbert Tucker (Raqib); and great-grandson Hakim Tucker.
