Umar Ibn Odell Muhammad was born Odell Samual White Jr. on August 21, 1948, to Georgia Mae Hinson and Odell White Sr. in Elizabeth, NJ.
Umar was educated in the Roselle, NJ public school system and attended Abraham Clark High School. He also took classes at Essex County College as an adult.
At a young age, Umar accepted Islam and took his Shahada. He attended and was a faithful member of Masjid As-Haabul Yameen in East Orange, NJ. Umar also made Hajj and Umrah with his wife Zohra completing one of his pillars of Islam.
Umar loved his family. He also enjoyed cutting hair. He even set up a barbershop in his home back in the day. Umar worked as a journeyman carpenter in his early years with Carpenters Local Union 254. Later he worked for the City of East Orange Department of Public Works and the East Orange Public Library until he became ill.
Umar was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, June Johnson and Lorraine White. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Zohra Muhammad; his children, Eugene Law (Starla) of California, Yolanda Butler (Claren) of Irvington, NJ, Qumar Muhammad of Roselle Park, NJ, Hamidah Muhammad of Newark, NJ and Keiana White of Rochester, NY; his brother, Joseph Tony Moore (Gwendolyn) of Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ; his grandchildren, Kenisha, Isaiah, Joshua, Nyereri, Malcolm, Jahid, Djibril, Samar, Malasia, Sage, and Elise; a host of nieces, nephews; cousin: Curtis Pettit, relatives, and and friends.
